How can I start an open dialogue about diversity in the art world, that can lead to structural change?

How can I visualize a concept through a complementary design?

TARGET GROUP

SUBJECT

Inclusive representation and systematical diversification is prevented by the gatekeeping of permanent collections of contemporary art musea which is defined by its underlying power structures, based on an ideology intertwined with discrimination.

People in the art world or just interested in art

CONCEPT

An online platform for collecting art as an example for diversity in art institutions. It would be a "permenant" collection of art, where guest curators can add collections. This creates ongoing additions to the collection, not curated by one specific individual but a diverse collective.

At first, curators would be invited, but when the platform will gain traction, people can sign up as curator. Important is that the collection will never be static and evolve with its time, reperesenting artist, art and curators of all backgrounds.

The online collection would be suplemented with a printed catalogue of the curated collections. This catalogue can be spread around art institutions, like musea, galleries and academys.

IDEA

Instead of giving a "solution" by creating a temporary platform for collecting art, I will highlight the current issues of temporarity. I will do so by making a website where everyday there is a new exhibition by a new curator. However, this exhibition is only accesible for 15 minutes. The rest of the day there is only a countdown until the start of the exhibition and the collected articles.

The online collection would be suplemented with a printable catalogue/zine of the curated articles. Daily, there will be a new poster available of that days exhibition. This gives the visitor an active role in the archival of art. If you are not there those 15 minutes, then you have missed your change and its gone.

A basic understanding of coding
