WEEK 02
06.09.21
- What do we mean by (the) public today?
- Public not as generic and abstract entity, but as in a multiplicity of publics
- In the age of sharing the public has become less defined
- Post-Digital Publishing Archive

- Personal urgency is in the present (we need to do now, to make now better), collective in the future (we need to do now, to make later better)

On gatekeeping in the art world:
- When searching for gatekeeping in the art industry there is not much to find, is this on purpose? In the contrary there is an abundance of articles about diversifying the art world, when not acknowledging the structures that prohibited these improvements, is it a real change or just a cosmetic facade?
- How will highlighting the issue of gatekeeping be received by the art world?
- Who is responsible for the gatekeeping: the curator? Or the people and institutes that give curators their power/influence?
- How has the internet influenced the power of gate keepers? More and more artist are recruited through social media because of their huge followings. Is this a genuine structural improvement or an “obligated” trend?

On feminism and the villainization of angry woman:
- Is the perception on angry woman what gave feminism a bad reputation? Doesn’t that then also emphasize the importance of feminism?
- How has the image of woman changed when seen in art? (The female body from object to weapon)
- Why is it that the few times a woman is portrayed(/described) angry, it is because of the actions of a man? (Medusa, Madea…)
